A Moment of Your Time

I know I might seem ungrateful

To ask for one more thing,

After all these lovely gifts

On this Christmas morning,

But if it is not too much trouble

Could I just have a moment of your time?

I know how busy you are,

With all the appointments to make

And all the bills to pay.

You have your life to think of,

So I will make this as quickly as I can

And only take up a moment of your time.

There is something wrong,

I hurt deep down inside

And do not know what it is

Or how I can make it go away.

I asked you about it before

But you could not spare a moment of your time.

I asked my friends what to do,

And they gave me their advice.

They said if I gave myself to the night

I would feel much better than I am.

But it seems to me that the pain would go away,

If I could just get a moment of your time.

It is not so bad, living in the night

It does not take away the pain

But I cannot see it in the dark

And if the light does shine on it

I can always go deeper into the night

And pretend I have a moment of your time

Now you dare to ask how I can do this.

How can I spit in your face,

By the clothes I wear, the friends I have?

But what do I care for your disappointment,

What do I care that you hate me?

At least now, I have a moment of your time.
