While casting this spell, the wizard summons globes of fire about the size of a marble. the number of globes is equal to 5+  2 per caster level (min 5) and they swirl around the caster at a distance of about 1yard/meter. Any one who steps into the space within 5’/2m (1hex) of the caster is automatically y hit with 1d4 of the orbs.  The orbs that strike in this way disappear and do 2d4+cl fire damage each.  Those who are in the area when the spell is cast can make a dex save to take a step away and avoid being struck.

In addition to the defensive use, the caster can gesture at one of the orbs and ‘throw’ it at a target. The attack uses 2 Ap and is considered a spell attack. If the orb misses it target it winks out of existence and reappears around the caster. Orbs that hit their target explode (and are gone) for 2d6+cl fire damage.

More balls: (1 expt. 5 ap, 1fire mp) instead of a handful of fire marbles, the caster is swarmed by them. They now have 10+ 5percl swirling around them. Those who come close are hit by 1d8 orbs.
